checking Oil level

To check the oil level in an engine, the first thing to do is find the yellow stick on the engine. On most cars the dip stick is in the front of the engine. On trucks or suv's or any vehicle that is rear wheel drive, the dipstick is located on the side of the engine.

Make sure the vehicle is on a flat surface, and engine shut off for atleast one minute. Then pull the dipstick out of the tube.

With a clean rag or cloth, wipe the end of the stick. Reinsert the dipstick, let it sit for 5 seconds, then pull it out again and look at the level of the oil as in the photo above. Notice that there are two dots on the stick. If there is oil on the end of the stick and does not reach the line or dot above, then add oil. From one dot or line to the next on the stick is one quart. So if the oil level is at the end of the stick right at the bottom of the stick on the bottom line or dot, then add one quart. If there is no reading at all on the stick, add one quart, then check the level, and add as needed.
